Hypoallergenic Baby Formulas
hypoallergenic baby formulas It is important to know what hypoallergenic formulas are and why they are used for babies. When protein has been predigested in the formula or it is hydrolyzed this is known as hypoallergenic. This is a process in which larger proteins are decomposed into smaller protein particles than can be digested easily without causing allergies or reactions. Now there is hypoallergenic baby formulas that protects babies from developing any allergies or reactions from indigestive proteins. Standard formulas can cause allergies compared to hypoallergenic formulas. So it is good for babies to take proteins in the form of hypoallergenic formulas.
These formulas use hydrolyzed proteins. This means protein have undergone a process by which they are decomposed intro smaller proteins from large proteins this is how the term hypoallergenic emerged. This process involves intense processing and the resultant component obtained is bitter in flavor no matter how much the sweeter content is used.
When these formulas are developed it also involves carbohydrates. Lactose component is removed from the milk due to the hydrolyzed protein. When lactose is removed then carbohydrate are added in the formula that are obtained from sucrose, corn starch, corn syrup and also tapioca. Carbohydrates are included to substitute lactose. However doctors have found that removal of lactose is not good because the nutrient component provided by lactose cannot be provided by carbohydrates.
The salt proportions used in hypoallergenic formulas are relatively larger compared to the salt proportion present in milk. The percentage in about 30 to 90 percent higher compared to natural milk.
The fat component present in hypoallergenic formulas is same as it is present in cow’s milk formulas. Fat involves two components that include alimentum and nutramigen. Both are sources of fats. Medium chain tringlycides, are source of primary fats in pregestamil. For growth of babies’ brain and body fatty acids are important but these are not provided by hypoallergenic formulas. These formulas can affect infants’ growth rate of mind and body.
Formulas are expensive
Doctors recommend sometimes use of hypoallergenic formulas for babies that have digestion issues. But these formulas are not affordable by larger population. The prices are high and everyone is not able to buy them. Not only in terms of monetary value these costs people much but also in terms of nutritional value. These formulas are not enough to provide the necessary nutritional values that are provided by milk. When an infant is prohibited from taking natural milk and is left to just hypoallergenic formulas, he risks many things. His mind and body does not grow in a natural way, his development may also be effected.
A scientific study has indicated that though hypoallergenic baby formulas are being used as milk and protein substitutes but these are not enough to provide all nutritional values to infants that are necessary for their normal growth process. It is found that some infants are not able to digest large proteins so they rely on these formulas that use digestible or hydrolyzed protein. But these formulas have also removed other natural components like lactose and used carbohydrates as substitutes but these are not sufficient for child proper growth.
